Child Find Developmental Monitoring Program for Infants and Toddlers Birth to 36 months |
Children learn and develop most rapidly during the first three years of life.
Child Find screens and monitors children's growth and development from birth to age 3. The Panhandle Health District offers the program free to parents who may have concerns or questions about their children's growth and development.

Developmental screening is a quick, fun way to tell if children are on track or if they need further examination or testing. Child Find uses reliable tools, such as the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ), to screen and monitor children. |
ASQ is a parent-completed questionnaire that contains 30 developmental items that are divided into five areas:
- communication
- gross motor (big muscles)
- fine motor (little muscles)
- problem solving
- Personal-social
Children are screened for movement, speech/language, thinking and learning, seeing, hearing, health and social/emotional skills.
Every couple of months, PHD mails parents a questionnaire that corresponds with their child's age. Parents complete and return the questionnaire in the postage-paid envelope. A PHD nurse reviews it and shares results with parents.
If a child's growth and development appear to be on track, Child Find will notify parents by mail. If the screening shows areas of concern or delay, Child Find will contact parents by phone and offer additional testing or evaluation at no cost.
