Mammograms are recommended annually starting at age 40. Women younger than 40 who notice breast lumps should schedule a breast exam. The Susan G. Komen for the Cure program and federally-funded Women's Health Check enable PHD to provide breast and pelvic exams to women with no or limited health insurance and of all income levels.
Panhandle Health District offers breast and pelvic exams in the five northern counties of Idaho through three programs.
Family Planning
This program charges clients depending on their income. Appointments in Kootenai County are made the same day by phone at 7 a.m. Appointments in other counties can be made 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., although clinic hours vary by office. Click on Appointments for office numbers in your county.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure
The Coeur d'Alene Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure enables Panhandle Health District to provide breast exams and vouchers for mammograms and/or breast ultrasounds to income-eligible women and men with funds it raises from its annual Race for the Cure. Appointments can be made between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Click on Mammograms for eligibility guidelines and more information.
Women's Health Check
This federally-funded program enables PHD to provide clinical breast exams, mammograms and Pap smears to women:
- ages 50 to 64 with
- liniled income and
- no health insurance,
- health insurance with a prohibilitively high deductible or
- health insurance that doesn't include mammograms or Pap smears.
