Panhandle Health District's 2011 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Team |
The Coeur d'Alene affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure enables Panhandle Health District to provide breast exams and vouchers for mammograms or breast ultrasounds to income-eligible women and men with funds it raises from its annual Race for the Cure.
Mammograms are recommended annually starting at age 40. The screening program also is open to women younger than 40 who notice breast lumps.
Here's how the Komen program at PHD works:
- Call the PHD office in your county for a Family Planning appointment:
- Kootenai County - 415-5270
- Bonner County - 263-5159
- Boundary County - 267-5558
- Benewah County - 245-4556
- Shoshone County - 786-7474
- PHD will provide a clinical (manual) breast exam.
- PHD will provide a voucher for and schedule a mammogram.
OR you can go to your doctor's office for a clinical breast exam. If the doctor recommends a mammogram and you qualify for the Komen screening:
- Sign up with Panhandle Health District for the Komen program.
- Ask your doctor to send a copy of your clinical breast exam to PHD and schedule your mammogram.
- PHD will provide a voucher for your mammogram.
You're eligible for the Komen program if you:
- Have no health insurance, mammograms aren't included in your health insurance, or your deductible is too high for you to afford a mammogram AND
