Two-thirds of STD infections can't be detected without a test. Consider:

  • 1 in 4 Americans have an incurable STD, such as genital warts, Herpes, HIV or Hepatitis for which there is no cure.
  • Since 1980, eight new sexually transmitted types of bacteria or viruses have been identified.
  • Two-thirds of all STDs occur in people age 25 or younger.
  • Fewer than half of adults ages 18 to 44 have been tested for STDs.
  • A woman is twice as likely as a man to acquire an STD during unprotected sex.
  • One in four new STD infections occur in teenagers.
  • One person is newly infected with HIV every 12 minutes in the United States and half of those are between 13 and 25 years old.

Panhandle Health District provides testing for chlamydia, gonorrhea and HIV. For tests of other sexually transmitted infections, call 415-5270.
