Safety |
Vaccine against the H1N1 influenza virus will be available to residents of the five northern counties of Idaho in fall 2009. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the vaccine Sept. 15, 2009.
Panhandle Health District will provide public vaccination clinics in all five counties on the same days. Clinics will be scheduled on weekends and weekdays at varied hours so as many people as possible can get the vaccinations. The vaccinations at the public clinics will cost recipients nothing. Dates, times and locations will be announced as soon as PHD receives an adequate supply of vaccine.
The H1N1 vaccination is voluntary, as are all vaccinations in the United States. PHD is working with public and private schools to vaccinate children during the school day. Children will bring home permission slips for the vaccination and receive the vaccination only with parent approval. Schools will notify parents when their students will receive their vaccinations.
Vaccine also will be available through some doctors' offices, particularly OB/GYN's. The vaccine is free, but doctors' offices may charge for an office visit and/or for the costs associated with storing and dispensing the vaccine. PHD recommends you call your doctor first to clarify how much it will cost you to receive the vaccine from him/her.
