Panhandle Health District ensures proper on-site sewage disposal systems for residents and businesses unable to connect to public or municipal sewer systems to:
- Safeguard public health and
- Restore and maintain the quality of public waters in the five northern counties of Idaho.
Idaho law mandated a Technical Guidance Committee to establish criteria for standard and alternative subsurface drainfield systems. The Technical Guidance Manual summarizes the criteria and provides necessary guidance to Environmental Health Specialists, Professional Engineers, Installers and others needing information on the detailed design, construction, alteration, repair, operation and maintenance of standard individual and alternative subsurface sewage disposal systems. |

Panhandle Health District will assist homeowners, land developers, engineers, Realtors and others in determining on-site subsurface sewage disposal suitability.
Permits are required for all subsurface sewage disposal systems in Idaho. PHD issues the permits for the five northern counties. The permits list the conditions and requirements necessary for each specific site for the installation of an individual subsurface sewage disposal system.
