Environmental Health inspects the restaurants in which you dine and issues permits for the onsite septic systems that treat and dispose of your wastewater. It protects the Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer from contamination and northern Idaho's bodies of water from sewage, all with the goal of protecting public health. It collaborates with other governmental bodies, organizations and individuals to protect the quality of life that's a priority with the people of Idaho's panhandle.
Public Health Preparedness is PHD's emergency response arm. Preparedness plans and builds the services that are necessary during a public health emergency, such as pandemic flu. It teaches the public how to personally prepare and businesses the importance of planning ahead to enable operations to continue during community emergencies.
