Free Dental Decay Prevention Help Available

 

                  Free fluoride varnish, fluoride prescriptions and dental supplies are available for children from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28, at Yoke’s Pharmacy, 212 Bonner Mall Way in Sandpoint.

                  Panhandle Health District is sponsoring the dental decay prevention event. A PHD dental hygienist will apply fluoride varnish free on children younger than 18 from low-income families. Fluoride is a mineral that helps fight tooth decay.

                  Fluoride varnish is a liquid that’s applied to the teeth with a brush. It provides a protective coating of fluoride, which releases over several months, strengthening teeth and helping to prevent decay. Parents or guardians must sign consent forms for the fluoride varnish treatment.

                 Dentists and doctors from the Sandpoint area will be available to write prescriptions for fluoride for children 12 and under. Yoke’s will fill the prescriptions at no cost to participating families.
