What is Asthma?
Asthma is a chronic, potentially life-threatening disease characterized by inflammation of the airways and lungs. The inflammation causes attacks of wheezing and shortness of breath. The prevalence of asthma has risen and continues to rise in every region of the country across all demographic groups, whether measured by age, race or gender.
Idaho's Statewide plan for asthma
The Asthma Prevention and Control project addresses the asthma burden in Idaho. Click here for Idaho's Statewide Asthma Plan. The plan was created from data collected from 425 stakeholders who contributed their time and expertise to the completion of the plan. The Bureau of Environmental Health and Safety for Idaho compiled and reviewed all the data from the seven health districts at the 2003 Idaho Asthma Summit. The summit data proceedings report was used by the state to create a comprehensive state asthma plan for a population-based approach to asthma in Idaho.
